Sprinter Life and Times of a Professional Road Racer - Malcolm Elliott
In this fascinating book Elliott tells of his life from a small boy, being pushed on his bike around his Sheffield back garden by his mother, to two Commonwealth gold medals and victories in the Tour of Spain. Captured in graphic detail are the pain and suffering that went into wins in major stage races like the Milk Race and the Kellogg’s Tour of Britain, as well as the tortures of the greatest test of all, the Tour de France.
But this is more than a book about riding a bike. It is a detailed account of the intrigues and personalities behind professional cycle racing; the cynical manipulation by
team bosses and their sponsors and the fight to maintain dignity and sanity in the most brutal arena in sport. It reveals for the first time the truth about
ANC Halfords involvement in cycling and details Elliotts troubled season with world champion Stephen Roche and his Fagor team.

Kelly
Kelly: A Biography of Sean Kelly by David Walsh
Sean Kelly is one of the first non-Europeans to challenge the French and Belgian strangle hold on the world of cycling for many years. He started with two
seasons with the Flandria team as a domestique (helper) at the time when Michel Pollentier was sensationally expelled from the Tour de France while wearing
the yellow jersey. Kelly's third, fourth and fifth seasons with the Splendor team were marked only by moderate success, but in 1982 he returned to Jean de Bribaldy,
the team manager who travelled to Carrick-on-Suir in 1976 and offered him his first professional contract. De Gribaldy was to become the 'Svengali' of Kelly's career,
the first one who helped him to the top.
Kelly went on in 1982 to win the Paris-Nice stage race in March. In winning this eight-day event, he also claimed four stages and later that year he won the green
jersey of the Tour de France and a bronze medal at the World Championships. 1983 was even better. He again won Paris-Nice, he won the Tour of Switzerland, the green
jersey of the Tour de France (7th overall) and the major end-of-season classic, the Tour of Lombardy. Since 1983 he has gone from strength to strength, and in 1984 he
was the No. 1 rider in the official FICP (International Federation of Cycling Professionals) Computer Rankings and was the leader on the Super Prestige Table.
He finished fifth in the Tour de France in 1984 and fourth in 1985.
While this book will centre on Kelly's career it also brings to life the sport of professional cycling, showing his place in the professional peloton,
his attitudes to such issues as drug-taking within the sport, the wheeling and dealing which takes place between riders during races and the eternal threat of a
major injury.

Pedals and Pistons
Born in 1930, Peter Procter spent much of his childhood in the village of Alne, north of York. His early life became something of a roller-coaster ride with the loss of both parents and the commandeering of the family home for air crew, when war with Germany was declared.
With two airfields of Bomber Command within a mile of his village, plane crashes became an all too familiar occurance. Peter's story covers some of his memories of those terrible days, together with working on the family farm.
Moving to the city of Bradford in late 1944, he had some success in cross-country running, but having taken up cycling to escape into the country he joined the East Bradford Cycling Club where he started to compete in races. Encouraged to take the sport more seriously, he had immediate success, being selected to ride for Great Britain in the World Championships in Belgium the following year, the first of several international races he would compete in.
Joining the Army to do two years service he was able to bend all the rules. His many successes included winning the British Road Race Championships before turning professional for BSA. After retiring from cycling early, he got into motor racing by accident but went on to race a variety of cars over an eleven year period, also competing in many rallies for Rootes and Ford before a big accident at Goodwood ended his career.
Peter's story includes many amusing anecdotes along the way.

Wonder Wheels by Eileen Sheridan
This is the life-story of the outstanding woman cyclist in Britain, told with much modesty and
good humour. It is a book that will appeal to everyone, cyclist or not, who admires an adventurous spirit. It was with the acquisition of a heavy ungainly machine that, at fourteen, Eileen found cycling at first a means of enjoyment, then an end in itself. She joined the Coventry
Cycling Club and began to undertake ever longer and more exhausting runs. Her enthusiasm quickly spurred her into women’s competitive cycling, and despite a fragile appearance, her
stamina and determination were such that her times were often found to be comparable only with those of men in similar events. From trials she went on to racing, continuing to break
records all the time. Her greatest exploit so far has been the triumphant ‘End to End’ ride from Land’s End to John o’Groat’s in 2 days 11hours, and carried on to ride the 1,000 miles in 3 days
and 1 hour.
Sportswoman, housewife and mother, she has succeeded in reconciling conflicting demands and interests; she has learnt, too, how hard it can be, having arrived at the top, to stay there.

Beryl Burton - Personal Best
With the success of both the British men's and women's cycling teams at the 2008 Olympic
Games, and the World Championships, the sport of cycling has come to the attention of the public.
However, few are probably aware that 50 years earlier a Yorkshire woman, Beryl Burton, was already winning the Women’s World Road and Pursuit Championships
for Britain and setting records in the National Women's Time Trial Championships. She continued to win Championships for another 30 years.
With the renewed national interest in cycling the time is right for Beryl’s autobiography “Personal Best” to be re-issued so that her outstanding story and achievements
can be made available to a new audience.

PETER COLLINS - ALL ABOUT THE BOY!
Peter Collins was one of that group of post-war Englishmen who were fascinated with motors,
machinery and competition. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, many of these ‘lads’ turned to motor sport...sprints, hillclimbs and circuit racing. The young son of a Kidderminster garage
owner threw himself headlong into the spirit and reality of racing as soon as he was old enough to do so. Known very much as the ‘boy’ to those who knew and watched him, because of his
youthful good looks and bubbly spirit, he was determined to be successful at what he had chosen to do.
Peter Collins came to be seen as one of the three British ‘wonder boys’ with Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorn. Moss and Collins were friends from 1949; Hawthorn came on the scene sometime
later, and by 1958 all were first rank Grand Prix and sports car drivers. They were very different characters, and this book looks into the character and nature of Peter Collins in his own right,
and tells much of the tale in the words of the people who knew him intimately. This book is truly a tale of ‘triumph and tragedy’, an account of a boy who became an intriguing and much admired
man. Author - Ed McDonough.

Cars of the Rootes Group
From the early 1930s until the mid-1970s the Rootes Group was one of Britain's foremost car manufacturers, producing and selling a multitude of models under the Hillman, Humber,Singer, Sunbeam and Sunbeam-Talbot badges.
Some of these cars have been the subject of individual model histories, but this is the first book to bring the total Rootes model line together in one major reference book. One of Britain's most able car historians, Graham Robson has adopted the style he established with his highly successful book THECARS OF BMC, featuring the eight constituent marques of the British Motor Corporation.
To describe the background to and formation of the Rootes Group, the position adopted by each of the marque names in the Group's overall marketing strategy, and the manner in which widespread use was made of common components, in producing cars of widely differing character and appeal. He then discusses each of the five marques in turn. Providing individual descriptions of every model produced, backed up by technical specifications and production records. The result is a book of great breadth and absorbing interest, one which will be welcomed by all classic car enthusiasts, but in particular by the many thousands who today own and run one of the cars produced by the Rootes Group, prior to its absorption into the Chrysler Corporation and, subsequently, the Peugeot-Talbot combine.

Alpine. The Classic Sunbeam by Chris McGovern
The Sunbeam Alpine was the brain child of designer Kenneth Howes
and the Rootes Group management. Designed specifically for an international market, it became one of the most successful British sports cars of the 1960’s,
years ahead of its rivals in both design and standard of manufacture. Today, the Alpine has a formidable following which is reflected in the many flourishing Alpine
clubs throughout the world.
This is the first book to give the full story behind the Sunbeam Alpine, from its initial design to the end of production in 1968. Chris McGovern describes
the early prototypes, the marque’s development from the Series 1 to 5, the various ‘hybrid’ models, and the competition history – both road and track.
He successfully relates the progress of the Alpine to the meteoric rise and subsequent downfall of the Rootes Group, once one of Britain’s largest car
manufacturing companies.
Current Alpine owners will be particularly interested in the chapters devoted to the club scene and to specialist tuning, the latter providing a detailed
account of how to convert an Alpine for racing. The appendices give full specifications and production data on all five series.
The scope of this book is truly remarkable. Backed by thorough research and written in painstaking detail, it will be regarded as the definitive work
on the Sunbeam Alpine by all car enthusiasts.

THE WORKS TIGERS - **NEW**
This eagerly awaited title is now available. Over the years there have been a number of books written about Rootes cars that only touch
on the competition history of the Tiger, but this book provides an accurate, wide ranging and detailed history of the works Tigers.
It covers the early development as a rally car in late 1964 right through to the final rally in 1966 covering each of the thirteen rallies in
detail. It includes the Le-Mans effort in June 1964 and the development of the cars for this one-off exercise.
Much of the detail in the main
text and the appendices the build of the works cars, FIA homologation details, previously unseen works cars build sheets and a large
number of outstanding photographs from both Rootes and other motorsports archives have come from the Competition Department
archives and from the mechanics own notes.

With a bit of Luck
It has been my privilege to know Marcus Chambers for over 50 years. I first met him when I scrambled onto the fringes of the BMC rally team and saw at first hand how this calm and intelligent approach contributed so much to the creation of one of the most renowned motorsport teams of all time.
I didn’t find out until many years later that when Marcus decided to move on, he put my name forward as his successor. I will always be grateful to him for that because the years I spent at Abingdon were among the happiest of my life, not least because the team I inherited from him, with outstanding people like Douggie Watts and Bill Price on board, was so supportive and very much the class of the field.
A few years later I was a marshal on the first London to Sydney Marathon
(1968) where I saw at first hand how Marcus won that event with the Rootes team. Few people can have had such a long life in motorsport and motoring - he has owned and run some remarkable cars - a 1907 GP Renault, lots of handbuilt specials, Bentleys in the Land’s End Trial and of course Brooklands. And he was the first to take a Mini on an International, finishing the ‘59 Viking Rally in a basically bog standard 850.
With a little bit of luck! is about much more than the motor car because it also covers his earlier life including his wartime adventures and his work with the Overseas Food Corporation. My only question when I heard about the book was over the choice of title because I’m not sure luck played that much part in his story - I think his success was all his own work.
But perhaps one incident described in the book did justify the title - he was in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1917 when a collision in the harbour involving a ship with 3000 tons of explosives on board caused a huge explosion and many deaths. If Marcus and his father had been just six minutes later in finishing their breakfast they would undoubtedly have been killed because the explosion blew in the huge plate glass windows in their house.
Just one of the many absorbing stories in this book. I’ve been lucky enough to see Marcus on a regular basis over the years and to hear many of these stories at first hand. I am delighted that he has now put them on paper so that they can be enjoyed by many more people via this fascinating book.

Innes Remembers
Innes Ireland was a successful racing driver, all-round sportsman, patriotic Scot, lover of classic cars and a prolific writer. His books have always been very popular but for many years he was also a contributor to a wide range of automotive magazines including Classic Cars, Road & Track, Autocar, Car Graphic and many others.
His love of motoring and racing began at a very early age in Scotland and over the course of his long career in journalism, he wrote down many of the tales of his childhood and youth, as well as his adventures as a Grand Prix driver for Lotus and exponent of long distance sports car racing. He knew a vast number of people associated with racing and other sports and was given a free hand to recount his stories. Some of the tales are very personal, many reflect on the highs and painful lows of racing, and there are episodes clearly born out of his love of driving good cars.
Motor racing historian Ed Mcdonough has taken the original transcripts of Innes’ articles, with the co-operation of Jean Ireland, and edited them into this collection of tales, adding many photographs not previously published.
They demonstrate the depth of Ireland’s passions and his skill as a writer and story teller.

BSA Twins and Triples
The Postwar A7/A10, A50/65 and Rocket III
‘The most popular motor cycle in the world’
During the early postwar years, motorcycling was as popular as it is today –
then the early BSA twin in its various guises was the machine for Mr Everyman.
For the best part of thirty years these very British motorcycles have entertained and
worked for their riders on the roads and racetracks throughout the world.
Today they have become highly desirable as collectors’ items, giving enormous pleasure to many.
Back in the days when the parallel twin was a rare sight, before the Second
World War, BSA had produced an excellent V-Twin. Obviously the were experienced
in ‘multi’ production. Their new vertical 500 engine mounted in a Silver Star frame
sought to compete with the Triumph Speed Twin.
Had the war not intervened, we might have known. Their first postwar machine was, however, less sporty and became
the A7 of 1946. BSA TWINS & TRIPLES takes the A7 development story through
many successful motorcycles, some with pretty glamorous names – Golden Flash,
Road Rocket, Rocket Gold Star, Spitfire, Shooting Star and Firebird.
Suitable information for the potential purchaser of a machine, the restorer or just the lover is
given.
There are detailed specifications and many illustrations.

TRIUMPH TWINS & TRIPLES
The 350, 500, 650, 750 Twins & Trident
‘The living legend that never died’
In modern times, with the well-established recognition that the Japanese
motorcycle now has alongside the long known German and Italian models, enthusiast
can still point proudly to the one major British firm left from the past. It’s Triumph,
now moved to a new home in Hinckley and building machines technically divorced
from their past, but still using the traditional tank badge recognised all over the world.
Long before events brought about this change, Triumph led the way to the
vertical-twin motorcycle and after World War II majored on this engine type, adding a
triple late in the day. These machines continue to be much in demand, but now this is
in the classic machine market where they hold the same high position as they did
when the models were new.
This book is essential reading for every Triumph owner, rider, restorer or just
admirer. It deals with the much loved Triumph twins, plus the fabulous Trident, from
its inception to the final days at Meriden and includes many photographs plus
invaluable tables of machine data and specifications.

NORTON TWINS
The Postwar 500, 600, 650, 750, 850 and Lightweight Twins
‘Built in the light of Experience’
If one were to pick the three major British motorcycle manufacturers the
following names would come to mind – Norton, BSA and Triumph. That reasoning
would be justification enough for this book– what makes it better is that in postwar
period Norton have produced some very fine motorcycles. Forget for the moment
their greatest and most memorable single-cylinder motorcycle, the Manx, and
concentrate instead on the bulk of their postwar range, and Twins.
Here is a detailed development history of those lovely classic Twins –model
7, 88, 77, 99, 650, Atlas, Commando, plus the Lightweights, the Wulf, the Wankel,
the Cosworth and the dressed-up AMC Nortons– there’s model by model and year by
year detailing, specifications, colours, prices and competition.

Marathon in the Dust
This is the story of three men in a car; their journey took them from London,
England to Sydney, Australia, a distance of some 11,000 miles. But this is no ordinary travelogue, for it was no ordinary journey; the 7,500 miles to Bombay were
covered in 7 days and the 3,500 miles across Australia in a further 3 and half days. The three men, Michael Taylor, Andrew Hedges and the author, Innes Ireland,
were competitors in the Daily Express London to Sydney Marathon, an event that will go down in the annals of motoring history to rank with the Paris-Madrid and
the Peking-Paris races held at the beginning of the century which marked the birth of motoring sport. Written with verve and gusto Marathon in the Dust vividly reflects
the adventures of this astonishing journey which include being stoned by political agitators in Pakistan, a breakdown in the Australian desert which left them stranded
for a day and a night without food or water, and their personal triumph in winning the Private Entrants award at Bombay. It also reflects the humour, companionship
and team spirit that existed between the three men bound by a common adventure. The story moves at a pace in time with the event, but through it all the author
manages to impart a remarkable impression of his inner thoughts and conflicts.

Norton Singles
Manx and Inter, and all side and overhead valve singles from 1927 to 1966.
There can be question as to the status of the Manx Norton. It is the worlds firm favourite for the accolade of 'the greatest road racing motorcycle'.
Surprisingly , this is the first book which details the machines development through the 'works' bikes to the production, customer versions. Nowhere else is it
possible to trace each years specific modifications. We have, therefore, essential reading for each and every enthusiast who has ever heard of the revered Manx.
Just as important, however, is the development story of all the other Norton singles which were current with the Manx, with or without overhead camshafts. Again
we have first-time coverage of the Inter, the ohc Manx sister, and all the step-sister push-rod machines:models 18, 19, ES2, 50, 16H, Big 4 and 500T in their various
guises. If it had Norton on the tank and but one barrel and piston, it's in the book. Nothing is overlooked, from TT racing to wartime mud plugging, from detailed tank
lining changes to carburettor fitment. Never before has such a wealth of information been offered on Britains best loved motorcycles.

All Arms and Elbows
This third edition of "All Arms and Elbows" some may think is an attempt to ring out a nearly dry rag, we believe this is not the case. This edition has been produced in a totally new layout, and includes information and photographs never before published.
Jean Ireland, who's co-operation in this project, and who owns the 'rights' to Innes's books has been most helpful in putting this document together, would like to share images and information with those who may be interested.
Being the archityple Scotsman, Innes found his way into motorsport by sheer guts and determination. His interest came at a time when two of Britains famous racing drivers died, one on the track at Nurburgring, Germany (Peter Collins) and the other ((Mike Hawthorn), World Champion) on the Guildford bypass, Surrey, England.
The size of the book is 23cm x 27cm x 2cm and is hard cased bound with a beautifully printed cover.
